Saying Goodbye to Summer

It seems as though fall has officially arrived here in the Pacific Northwest as Thursday morning ushers in the rain.  Along with the change in weather October also brings cooler darker mornings and cozy evenings at home.  We tried really hard to stretch out the final lingering days of our indian summer.  It was a record breaking 89 degrees on Monday!  Still enjoying the bounty from this year's garden, we've been savoring the last of the green beans and fresh basil.  Luckily because of the warmer days we're still gathering figs and those late blooming tomatoes.   I see salsa and marinara in our future.

As an attempt to cling to our fabulous Oregon summer and take one last vacation, we went camping on the Deschutes River last week with our good friends Jason, Kim and baby Kingston.  The guys spent HOURS fishing for Steelhead while Kim and I passed the time hanging by the river, taking walks and playing with the kids.  Unfortunately no fish were caught, but good times were had by all.

I have been working on creating some structure in my new life as a stay at home mom.  This week I'm excited to begin a new schedule.   I have started back up with Pilates at an in-home studio (Divine Pilates).  Beyla hangs out upstairs with the instructor's nanny and about 3-5 other little tykes, mostly boys.  She is usually so busy playing that she hardly notices when I come get her to go home.  It feels wonderful to take time to for myself and know that Beyla is one room away enjoying herself.

Margaret (neighbor) and I have worked out a trade.  She watches Beyla in the mornings and I watch Gabriel in the afternoons while she is at class.  I look forward to running errands, scheduling appointments, cleaning the house, working out and taking time for myself during this chunk of time.  What a god send!  Beyla gets a real kick out her new buddy.  They are just a couple of weeks apart in age, but their personalities couldn't be further apart.

Beyla and I started our music class with friends Darcy and baby Hazel and Stephanie and baby Maggie.  We continue to spend time weekly with Maggi and cousins Campbell and Jack.

This week, we said goodbye to Ramsay (aka Fat Kitty).  My good friend and neighbor Suzanne offered to adopt her and Adam and I agreed it would be best decision for the cat.  This will be her first winter alone after Dutch passed away this summer.  As devoted and responsible pet owners it was tough to make the call but we know that she will be loved and well cared for in her new home.  The stray cats are still trying to figure out what happened to their free lunch.
